PRESENT PERFECT

08.gifPaula Andrea,
         How's it going?

Well as you already know, this project is meant to encourage the interaction between you (as my tutee or learner) and me as your tutor, in order for you to practice English and improve your English skills while using technology. However, if we want to success in this project, you must participate over the sessions and discuss about the subject matter.

* Please ask me if you have any question or need some help about the topic for this week*

Ok let's work on the topic for this week: The present perfect. However, before we start, I would like you to think about the following questions:

1. Do you know which is its communicative function? I mean, I wonder if you really know in which situations we use the present perfect.
2. What's the grammatical structure for the present perfect?
3. What are the contractions with the present perfect tense?
4.  Would you be able to give examples of sentences using present perfect (right now)?

OK, if the answer is not, do not worry, let me give you a hand with this. LET´S START with the first question.

WHAT ARE THE COMMUNICATIVE FUNCTIONS OF THE PRESENT PERFECT?

WHEN TO USE THE PRESENT PERFECT

HOW DO WE MAKE THE PRESENT PERFECT TENSE?

SUBJECT + AUXILIAR VERB (Have or Has) +MAIN VERB IN PAST PARTICIPLE
FOR EXAMPLE:
I have played
You have played
He has played
We have played
You have played
They have played
Yo he jugado
Tú has jugado
Él ha jugado
Nosotros hemos jugado
Vosotros habéis jugado
Ellos han jugado
REMEMBER: If you want to practice and review the past participle, go to this web page and print the chart:

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCE: subject+ auxiliar verb("to have") + past participle.
Example: I have talked to Saray.
NEGATIVE SENTENCE: subject+ auxiliar verb("to have") + NOT + past participle.
Example: I have not talked to Saray.
INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE: auxiliar verb ("to have") + subject+ past participle + ?
Example: Have you talked to Saray?

CONTRACTIONS WITH THE PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

I have               I've
You have        You've
He has             He's
She has           She's
It has                It's
John has         John's
  The car has      The car's
We have          We've
They have          They've

REMEMBER: Use the simple past, not the present perfect, to talk about a specific time in the past. For example:

* she applied for the position at the science institute last week
* NOT She has applied for the position at the science institute last week
